🍊 Ingredients
For the Dough (Yeast-Raised Version):
- 3 1/4 cups (400g) all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 1/2 cup (120ml) warm milk (around 100–110°F / 38–43°C)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) orange juice, freshly squeezed
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut)
For the Orange Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups (180g) powdered sugar
- 2–3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- 1/2 tsp orange zest
- Optional: 1–2 drops orange food coloring

🔹 Make the Dough:
- In a small bowl, mix warm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, salt, and orange zest.
- Add yeast mixture, orange juice, eggs, butter, and vanilla. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 mins (by hand or stand mixer with dough hook) until soft and elastic.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
🔹 Shape the Donuts:
- Roll dough out to 1/2-inch (1.25 cm) thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut using a donut cutter or two round cutters (one large, one small).
- Place donuts and holes on parchment-lined trays. Cover and let rise 30–45 mins.
🔹 Fry the Donuts:
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts in batches for 1–2 mins per side until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
🔹 Make the Glaze:
- Whisk powdered sugar, orange juice, and zest until smooth. Add coloring if desired.
- Dip warm donuts into glaze, allow excess to drip off.
- Set on a rack for the glaze to set.
