🍰 Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temp
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)
For the Buttercream Frosting:
- 1½ cups unsalted butter, room temp
- 5–6 cups powdered sugar
- 2–4 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Gel food coloring (team colors!)
For Decorating:
- Fondant (optional for letters, numbers, logos)
- Piping bags + tips
- Edible marker or stencils for precision
🧁 Instructions:
1. Bake the Cake
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a large rectangle or sheet pan.
- In a medium bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 min).
- Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla.
- Alternately add flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with flour.
- Pour into pan and smooth the top. Bake 30–35 min or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
2. Prepare the Buttercream
- Beat butter until fluffy.
- Gradually add powdered sugar. Add vanilla and milk to reach desired consistency.
- Tint with gel food colors to match your team’s colors!
3. Shape & Decorate the Jersey
- Once the cake is cool, gently carve the top corners to mimic a jersey shape (like a T-shirt).
- Apply a thin crumb coat of buttercream. Chill for 30 min.
- Apply final layer of colored buttercream and smooth with a spatula.
- Use piping bags to add outlines, seams, and stripes.
- Add fondant letters/numbers or pipe them with a fine tip.
- (Optional) Place a small fondant soccer/basketball/baseball near the base.
